Electrical Checks and Renting

Hi All,

In relation to renting out a house, how often should the Landlord have the house electrically certified to ensure that it's safe?

Thanks

As I understand it, there are no requirements for electrical checks for landlords. It's not like gas where they have it done every year.

    The elctrics must be safe.

There is no regulatory timescale for checks.

this is what the councils do as standard

also if anything god forbid happens you have to be able to show you have done everything possible to limit any problems and by having the test done this covers this

HMO is every 5 years. Otherwise no specific requirement other than to be "safe".

I suspect all the advice above (mine included) is based on English law.

    N. Ireland may well be different.

    Where is the property?

Northern Ireland, I had the property certified every year as I thought this was necessary but it's now been 18 months since it was last done.
