Just registered as self-employed... Need some advice.

So I've just registered as self-employed, as I have a few jobs coming up that are freelance.
I understand a little about the tax etc, however in terms of reducing my tax bill at the end of the year what am I able to claim.
My travel is looking at around £80 a week and I was looking to get a laptop to use for work rather than carting around my current laptop, would this entitle to me to any reduction on my tax.
I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth buying the laptop.
Thanks!
