No Claims Help Please!!!

I had a no claims bonus (about 4 years worth I think) but decided to walk to work instead and stopped having a car not realising that three years down the line when I need to buy a car again, I would have lost any no claims I was entitled to. I have had a clean license with no claims or penalties or anything for 9 years, I have spent the last two years insured on my husband's van, but will be treated as expensively as a new driver!! Does anyone know any companies that can help? This does not feel fair.

This has just happened to me but after quite a bit of research the best deal I could get was with Asda from what I could understand this rule of losing you're no claims bonus is across the board which I think is unfair but they have their reasons I suppose.
Low Carb High Fat is the way forward I lost 80 lbs

Since first using Martins I have saved thousands
  • It is just really frustrating as I don't know how I could have avoided it. It's not like I would buy a car again within two years just so I could keep a no claims. I wonder if you can pay to protect them, but that seems daft if you don't know how long you're going to be without a car. APlan are currently searching for me. As I have been named as a second driver, they might be able to use that as an intro thing to soften the blow.
  • You might want to try a broker - they can often get "introductory discounts" which would help make up the amount lost on having no NCB. We used Premier Insurance in Consett for years - always got excellent service by phone, never lived anywhere near there, but family recommended them many moons ago. I am sure there are lots of independent brokers like them - never found the online ones to be competitive with the quotes we got from them.

Direct insurers offer introductory discounts too but they simply automatically apply them without needing to ask.

The Coop do accept NCD up to 3 years old so if its just under 3 years you could see what price they come up with. Some might even buy from them even if a bit more expensive on the basis next year you get back proof of NCD with your full 5 years again so can then go back to the open market with 5 years ncd

Alternatively you could call people and see if anyone is sympathetic, your last insurer or the insurer that you are currently a ND on are the highest chances but its pot luck as "partner NCD mirroring" that used to be relatively common more or less disappeared with the introduction of multicar discounts and Named Driver NCD etc.
