Another person has transferred some money to my account. Online.

They did it on Wednesday.

It's now Friday and it has still not shown up in my account when I check my online banking.

Does it take a few days ??

Seems to be a bit slow my account. I.e when I use chip and pin for fuel it takes a day or two to actually show up in my account online

Will it show up if I get a mini statement from a cash point ?

  • If they used Faster Payments it should arrive by the end of the day at the latest, within 2 hours typically and actually within seconds in most cases.

  • A Faster Payment transfer should only take a couple of hours and definitely no longer than close of business next working day.

Sometimes payments, particular sent to new payees and large amounts, do get held up for security checks. That might, or might not be the case for a delay; although it still should have cleared next business day (Thursday night).

Are you sure the payment has gone out. In my experience "payment been sent" equals "cheque is in the post" of yesteryear.

Not all bank accounts support faster payments. Transfers in and out of my N and P Classic account seem to take forever.
  • Every time I've transferred money to other people's accounts (family), I get a message saying it may take up to 2 hours, but it's always been instant. I can be in the middle of a phone call, transfer using my laptop and the person I'm speaking to can see instantly on their internet banking that it's gone into their account.
I love a bargain. Now mortgage and debt free. hurray!!:smileyhea

I know my bank has fast payment transfer because I've use it.

I don't know what the other person uses.

I just know that the person said money has been sent to my account. On Wednesday and I keep checking my online account and it's not there :(

    I don't know what to do ?

Should I go to my bank and see if they can help ?

Maybe it just hasn't updated online ?

Maybe its due in a few days ?

Point is, person is suppose to be sending some money to me today as well.....

There not big payments, nothing over 60.00.

    :(:(:(

OP, elsewhere you said your account is with Halifax. If so, the money sent to you should long have arrived. It was either not sent at all, or it was sent to a different account.

Regarding debit card purchases showing on your account: the bank will update your transaction list once the retailer has sent them the details of your purchase. This generally happens in batches and it can take several days for the transaction to show. You won't see anything faster on mini statements.

If it was sent from a business account it may well not have used the faster payments system, but gone by BACS which can take 3 days
  • As mentioned above, if the money has been sent via faster payments then you should have it by the end of the following working day at the latest.

If I was in your shoes I would contact the person sending you the money and ask them to confirm the details of where the money was sent, (Sort code & account number) just to check there has not been an error.
