Time for Experian to Update Their Own System?

This has happened twice to me now, I had a default registered on 29/8/2008 and have been waiting with excitement for it to drop off on it's sixth anniversary. Checked this morning, it's still there.
I pay for this service as to check things like that, bur you could imagine if I was in need of a mortgage, had my statutory report and went for a DIP or full application today and their system had not updated to remove it and got declined.
Always seems to me, quick to put them on, slow to take them off.
Annoyed.

Technically speaking you're not paying them for this service. The default will be removed although its rarely on the actual six year anniversary.
Will be a couple of weeks usually.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Experian's systems should and usually do automatically remove defaults 6 years to the day. I have read a few accounts where they don't come off until midnight 24 hrs later though.
Certainly should take no longer than that.

No we aren't paying them to work on our behalf, but aren't they legally obligated to provide factual information. Therfor, by rights, it should drop off exactly on the day. Funny how it doesn't come off two weeks early but always two weeks late.
Makes you wonder a little.0 -
The CRAs are really very loosely regulated and there isnt much more than the Data Protection Act and Consumer Credit Act. Looking at both there is nothing that I can spot that says they must only provide the last 6 years of data and so it seems practice rather than law in which case there is nothing to force them to drop date on its anniversary.0

Looking at your opening post again billybear1 I see the default date is 29/8/14. I misread it earlier as 28/8/14. We remove defaults at the end of the six year anniversary day, so yours should disappear tonight. Please let us know if this doesn't happen, but I'm sure it will!

Thanks for your response James, here is hoping it is off tomorrow now that you have explained this.0

Well, I must say James was on the money here, thank you so much for you advice. As my post is now factually incorrect as Experian can update their own system I wonder if a moderator could delete this thread?0

As the information is helpful, I've just amended the thread title. Let me know if that is not OK.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
