Advice Please - Mortgage Application with Halifax

Options
Hi All

Just looking for some advice

We went thought a full application on Sat 16th August 16th 2014 after waiting almost a week for someone to call us back to go through the full application.

We faxed the documents over to Halifax on Monday 18th, I contacted them on Wednesday to ask if they got them as take 48 hours to show on system - was told they were fuzzy and could I fax again - they refused emailed scan copies so faxed them again and sent recorded delivery.

I contacted them on numerous occasions - totalling 4 hours and when I eventually got someone they said to call back as were closed.

My Halifax mortgage advisor emailed to say that processing team are extremely busy and that it may be another 2 weeks before they looked at!!

To say I am frustrated is an understatement!! In the meantime we have had an offer accepted a couple of weeks ago & meant to be moving at end of September.

We are first time buyers and just don't know where to go from here.

Halifax just seem to be reluctant to help as too busy & clearly they need to look at process improvement.

Surely they should catch up with their backlog before taking on new clients?

Is it worth complaining about the length in their process? I just don't want to wait another couple of weeks to be told no & have gone through all this hassle for nothing...

Advice greatly appreciated :)

    Hi Kim_35

I like you am a FTB and have applied for my mortgage with Halifax. Needless to say it was not an easy process I'm afraid! I applied beginning of July...I only got the approval 1 week ago. I was ringing the processing team almost every day eventually. My word of advice is to be patient..there is a definite back log, but keep chasing them up to check what they've got. They promised to ring me back multiple times but never did... so keep on ringing if you're worried. Don't wanna be the bearer of bad news, but I wish I'd known what to expect 8 weeks ago!!

they do everything in the order recieved, they will not go any quicker
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I would expect Halifax to respond to my documents within 48 hours of receipt but as to what service the branch applications receive I don't know.

I do know I can arrange a Halifax mortgage far, far quicker than a branch of Halifax could dream of which is odd when you think about it.

I have recently applied as ftb on 20/08/14 in branch all documents taken and credit check done. I wad given mortgage illustration on that day.
I received a phone call on 22/08/14 from company conducting survey and valuation on halifax behalf and this was booked for 1/09/14 which considering th bank holiday is to bad.

Wow that was quick! I done mine over the telephone and its been neverending! Ive not even been asked about a survey & valuation - Is this something that is not done in Scotland with having Home Reports?

I had full mortgage app on 13/08 and had full mortgage offer last Friday 22/08. Although I'm buying in Scotland where a valuation is not required, so obviously that speeds things up.

Little point in agreeing dates until the buying process is well under way. To expect the whole process to only take 6 weeks in total is on the optimistic side.
