Beko fridge-freezer broken after 4 years

Hi all,
We bought a Beko fridge freezer 4 years ago and it has worked fine for that time. Went away on holiday for 2 weeks, came back and now the fridge is freezing everything and it turns out the freezer is also too cold (around -30 deg). We've replaced the control board because that was reasonably cheap (£25) but that sadly hasn't fixed the problem. It's looking very much like it is an ex-fridge/freezer.
Perhaps my expectations are too high but I don't think 4 years is a reasonable time for a fridge/freezer to last. I've read a bit about the consumer rights from this website and I see that I need to talk to the seller. The main problem is that neither my husband nor I are able to find anything to tell us where we bought it from! We are normally really good at keeping receipts but don't have one, and we've checked through all our credit card records, email accounts, etc. to try and work out how we bought it with no luck at all. We've contacted Beko directly who asked for a date of purchase and the name of the seller (totally reasonable, it's just we can't supply them!).
Has anyone got any advice to offer?! Thanks in advance.

Any rights you may have are with/against the seller.
As you cannot even identify the seller, that seems to be the end of the road.
Just to add that even if you do recall who sold the thing to you, they have every right to ask you for a proof of purchase, e.g. receipt or credit card statement, etc.
Even then they are entitled to ask you to prove the fault is inherent, i.e. the fault was present at the time of sale but not necessarily apparent at that time.
The manufacturer owes you nothing beyond what their guarantee offers.
Good luck.0 -
Your contract is with the Company you paid your money to for it. Unfortunately you have no proof of who this is. Can you search through your bank/credit card statements and track it?0

Thanks both - that's pretty much what I thought! We've been through all the financial records we can for now but we have one more bank account that we're trying to check too. We'll just have to hope we can find it there I guess. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.0

4 years doesn't sound too bad for a cheap unit.0

Move on and buy a new one?
I'm going to go out on a limb and say 4 years for a Beko (£200-300?) is probably par for the course.
Now, if you'd said it was a Miele costing > £800 then you'd have grounds to expect it to last a lot longer.0
