Tips for Turkey please & Which area to stay?

I think we've finally managed to find flights suitable for all 6 adults to Dalaman, Turkey with xl.com... Hoping to fly out Monday 27th August for 7 nights...

We're going to book a Villa/Appartment but not sure what area to go for?

We're 6 20-somethings... looking for sunshine, a nice beach... nice places to eat and shopping, shopping, shopping... not interested in clubs and no children to entertain, just us...

We're on a really tight budget too...

All suggestions are hugely appreciated, thanks very much in advance x

If you like a nice beach & you have booked Dalaman flights then there is no question, Olu Deniz - fab place.
There are no SC or villas in Olu Deniz (that I know of, there are none remotely near the beach). There are loads of good value hotels. Would you go for B&B, HB or AI?

I've read about Olu Deniz and it does sound lovely, is it ok for the other things we are looking for too?

We don't want a hotel really, would it not be worth staying locally to Olu Denis and using the dolmus?

Thanks for your advice so far

We're looking at going to Olu Deniz next year, so I'll be watching this thread with interest. I think we'll be going B&B.

I did a travel agent mystery shop last year, and the lady had been to this resort a few times. She really sold it to me with the fabulous beach and lagoon, and plenty of bars and restaurants in the resorts.

Do a google image search on Olu Deniz and look at the beach. It's fantastic
Here I go again on my own....

The only resorts you could go to local to Olu Deniz are Hisaronu & Ovacik, neither of these have a beach, they are set in the mountains behind Olu. If you don't mind staying inland & getting the dolmus you could do that. Hisaron is nearer Olu & bigger & brasher, Ovacik is a little further & quieter.

As for shopping, Fethiye market on a Tuesday (or could be Friday?) is the biggest market for miles. There is a slightly smaller one in Hisaronu. Is it markets or designer shopping you are thinking off?

Lots of restaurants & lowkey bars in Olu, people go into Hisaron at night if they want clubs.

Hisaronu is more "British", if you're not after that, then Ovacik if it MUST be self catering.

But I bet you don't ever cook on holiday? I went SC for years & never cooked.

I would vote hotel in Olu everytime.

There are 6 of us, so we're thinking a villa not from the sc but because it will be cheaper and our own pool etc...

Thanks for all your help, Olu Deniz is gorgeous and we'd love to stay there, you've put me off Hisaron and Ovacik now though...

How about Marmaris then? I know it's not as gorgeous etc.. but can we get a villa there and not be too far away from things?

We're looking for 'designer' shoppng - where's the best place?

I think Marmaris will provide you with a reasonably priced holiday and a mix of entertainment that gives you some variety in your holiday. Marmaris s often likened to "Blackpool" and sure there is a 1/2 mile run of bars/disco's etc along a part of the beach area that provide wall to wall music/enertainment/drag shows etc & why not - it's fun just to walk along and enjoy the specatacle even if it's not your cup of tea.

There are alos many fine inexpensive places to eat, good beaches and a nice marina area. There is good shopping and the opportunity to break up your stay with boat trips, jeep tours etc.

You should be able to find a villa etc in Beldibi or Armutalan which are a 10 minute dolmush ride into town and almost all hotels will allow yu to use their pool if you ask and buy a couple of drinks during the day.

give it a go & enjoy.

When you put designer in brackets, do you mean designer fakes, or real designer.
Assuming you mean fake designer, than any of the Turkish markets are great & you will have lots of fun bartering.
If you mean real designer, than I don't think Turkey has much in the way of real designer, does anywhere in the med really??? Apart from Italy, St Tropez & Marbella:D :D:D

Marmaris, think Magaluf, Playa Las Americais, that sort of place.

As you've already got the flights you have to pick a Dalaman served resort. How about Chalis beach (sp???) just outside Fetiyhe (sp???), nicer than Marmaris.

Also there is EVERY chance a villa will NOT work out cheaper, as you really pay a preimum for having your own pool.
But an apartment would be cheap.

Just back from Turkey (well we went in May) and stayed in Hisarino (cant spell it) that was nice lots of bars and shops all selling fake gear and very cheap too. Took the bus to Chalis beach and thought it was very nice too. If you want a beach hol I would say Chalis beach is good and there are lots of appartments on the internet for that area. If not Ichmalar (cant spell that either) is very nice with a beach too. There are lots of shops and bars there too. Went there 3 years ago and had a lovely time.

You can find an apartment by going through google and putting apartment in turkey in the search.

Good luck and hope you find what you are lookig for

Have you considered Dalyan? Lovely area by the river with a beautiful beach accessed by dolmus or river taxi. Good restauraunts, bars and shopping. Not big and brash. Loads of villas available to rent or unbelievably cheap B&Bs [booked direct] through owners. Dalyan is only about 25 mins from airport.
