The main thing that is worrying me about Vietnam (5 weeks to go!) is the number of zeros on the banknotes. I just know at some point, probably after a few beers, I'm going to pay 10 times too much for something.

In the airport on the way home I was still muddling my 100,000 notes with my 10,000 notes.

But I did enjoy being a multi millionaire :D

Thanks for the warning. What I liked about Cambodia is that the taxi drivers were (mostly) cheap and reliable. In Thailand I try to avoid using them as much as possible.

Cambodia you negotiate before you get in the taxi/tuk tuk. Vietnam is all metered taxis.

Travelling through Vietnam reminded me just how much I love Cambodia :o Cambodians and Vietnamese have a very different outlook on the way they treat tourists IME.

It's so much easier to negotiate before you get in. I hated how you'd never know how much someone was trying to rip you off until it came to pay in Vietnam.

I found all of the tuk tuk and taxi drivers in Cambodia really nice. We hired one for a day to take us to a waterfall and we were taking photos of him at the top with his phone so he could send them to his family. It was odd but nice having him join in with us. They often wanted to know how much we'd paid for journeys and seemed to be worried we'd over paid too. They also always know another taxi driver wherever you're going in Cambodia! I think Cambodian taxi drivers are the nicest (although not the safest drivers) I've met in the world.

Ditto.

We will have had a similar experience I guess. You being female westerner travelling alone. Me being female westerner travelling with 2 under 10s.

Sad to say the amount of incidents where I was ripped off in Vietnam significantly rose after hubby flew home. The taxi drivers didn't expect me to fight back...poor fools :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Totally agree with that. I had no problems with taxi or tuk tuk drivers in Cambodia at all. Short trips around PP were all $1 (and I suppose I was overpaying but couldn't be bothered with the change). I hired one guy at random and he gave me the whole day grand tour (including the Killing Fields) and only wanted $15. The next day he was waiting outside my hotel to tell me that with that money he had bought his kids some new shoes.

I just returned from Vietnam. I used Visasun taxis, no problem at all.

Hi guys.
I used the service of ITI-HOLIDAY 2 times by different ways to get my Visa Vietnam on Arrival. It took almost just a few minutes for the application and it does not need to send my passport or visa fees in cash to any Vietnamese Foreign Mission as well it was much cheaper.

There are 2 different kinds of Visa on Arrival what they offer. The first is by Approval Letter (VAL, vietnam-visa-for-vietnam.com/vietnam-visa-on-arrival-application-step-1.html). The second is by Visa Online (VOA, vietnam-visa-for-vietnam.com/online-vietnam-tourist-visa-application-step-1.html).

The different are:
- by VAL you still need to pay Visa Stamp Fees at the airport of your arrival and may you have to wait for a while before you get your Visa
- by VOA is all fees included
their staff is waiting as you arrive at airport in Vietnam and do all the Visa procedure for you within a few minutes

It was working well at 2 times even the staff at Vietnamese Embassy told me it is not official and I better should get my Visa from them. But why I should pay more as I need for the same thing and service.

More Information can be checked here (vietnam-visa-for-vietnam.com/vietnam-visa-application.html) if you guys are interested about more details on processing Vietnam Visa Applications.

I also booked ones the transfer of ITI-HOLIDAY as I was cheated by taxi scams on my first stay in Vietnam. Their driver just was waiting outside the airport and took me to down town.

Cheers
