Student Credit score problems.

Hi all,
I've applied for a student account with Santander after a bit of comparison between themselves and other banks.
The interest free overdraft and free 3-year travel card was the main pulling factor for me. I met with a personal banker last week and answered the typical questions for a basic credit check yet when it came back it appears i have been denied an account, even after an appeal.
I had an overdraft (not arranged) for 4 months as i had just come back from travelling and was out of work, also my phone bills weren't being paid on time due to the same reason.
These two reasons are most probably why I was denied but I am just enquiring is there any short term fix or any way at all I can change my credit rating, or somehow be accepted for this account? I start my course on Monday 22nd of September.
Thanks in advance,
Andrew Mackay

Hi
No quick way to fix it unfortunately and probably little chance of being accepted for any student account with an overdraft for a while.
The main thing that will help is time and ensuring that all bills are paid on time now, that you don't go overlimit/overdrawn on your bank account. It is also useful to ensure you are always on the electoral roll.
The missed payment markers and exceeded overdraft markers will be on your file for 6years, but as they get older they will have less of an impact.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Yep, time will help as long as you are abiding by the repayment terms in the meantime.
Btw, you don't have a student credit score or any sort of score or rating (see the top sticky thread in this forum for more information).0
