Really easy job - I did one whilst 6 months pregnant and lived to tell the tale! Lol make sure you wear a dust mask as it can be a really dusty dirty job depending on what's underneath and how old the underlay is etc

hubby's just done this - and he's by no means a DIYer at all

get a crowbar from B&Q for a couple of quid & the gripper rods will come up quite easily. You may also need a pair of pliers if they've tacked down the underlay too
A crowbar is a bit overkill.

A large flat bladed screwdriver, as suggested above, or a chisel should do the job and probably do less damage to the flooring.

Having ben a carpet fitter for 35years+, which obviously involved working in thousands of houses over that period of time,it never ceased to amaze me what people put up with regarding the mess and damage caused by cats and dogs.I wonder if they let their children mess on the floor scratch furniture and paintwork etc.etc.Reading the above I know I must be from a different planet!!

Thanks guys.:) That pic was helpful.

Just to say, I have pulled up carpet before but just not on a staircase. I tried to pull up a bit yesterday and it looks fairly straightforward and I will be doing the rest today. I was just worried about there being big gaps where the grippers things were but looks like it will be okay if I'm careful.
