Avios AIR MILES! Using AMEX everywhere and to pay housebills

Hello,

I have an AMEX British Airways card and I am looking to increase my spending on it to enable me to collect Avios Air Miles - I was looking into the potential of using Amex but I do not think I can find a clean way to do this - I looked at using Amex to buy a pre-paid card and then pay the bills on a pre-paid card but I am not sure I like this idea. At the moment I pay all my household bills via direct debit but most suppliers will let me pay via a card.

Any ideas or anyone tried the same thing?

Problem is that many suppliers give a reasonably good DD discount and the loss of this most likely outweighs the avios points earned by using a credit card.

look on flyertalk at the tesco thread- and then at 3v

you can buy 3v cards from tesco using amex. You get bonus clubcard points for each £50 purchase. You then use 3v to pay bills at no cost. BUT not everyone accepts them. Read the thread- it is a fine art.

You then convert the tesco clubcard points to avios as well as getting the avios on the amex purchase.

Headforpoints is another great site with lots of advice about this. But do read as a lot of councils, energy dont take 3v.

3v is a time consuming process to activate and use them.

If you use topcashback you can 'convert' your cashback to Avios points with a 5% bonus.

So £1 cash back would be converted to 105 Avios points.

Even better, convert your tcb to tesco clubcard points. Then convert the clubcard points to Avios 600points for £2.50 clubcard.

To be honest, I value an Avios point at about 0.7p. So that's a horrible trade TopCashback are offering.

But if you have an amex 2 for 1 and are redeeming in 1st or even CW the value is greater.

Not worth it otherwise.
