just thought id let you know about a polaroif tv i purchased this week. but first a back story.
xmas last year i got a samsung 42 inch tv as my kid accidently threw a wii remote at the old one. i got it from currys, got it home and it had terrible banding and the bezel was falling off. had to fight to get a replacement only 2 days after i got it and decided to pay the extra and get the 46 inch version having read that the bigger set didnt have the banding issue. they were right it didnt, but it has light spots in white or beige scenes. not overly noticable and i didnt want to risk getting one worse.
skip to last week, i had a 32 inch polaroid tv from asda i got in january, all of a sudden it started turning itself off, id had it 8 months so thought, here we go, went into asda with the tv and was surprised when they said, "ok do you want to go get another" i proceded to get the tv and noticed that for an extra £20 they are now doing a 40 inch 1080p led tv. i was skeptical that it would have massive banding issues and be terrible but i thought with the returns being so good id give it a go.
this tv is amazing, the picture quality is better than my samsung, no banding, no light patches, HD looks amazing after calibrating it. i cannot get over the fact that an asda branded tv (i dont beleive they are proper polaroid like the cameras but the brand name has been bought, something i read on the net) for £200 would be as good never mind better than a £600 samsung.
the store i got it from said it was the last one as they were selling like hot cakes, but i beleive the website has them in stock, they also do a 60 inch for £599 and if its as good as this which the reviews say it is, then its a really good buy that i wish i had taken up last year.
also note i am very picky with tv's !!

The Polaroid brand was bought by ASDA in the UK - no cameras were made after the firm was wound up. These TV's are very much a budget brand, the quality and reliability is reasonable as far as it goes but the screens are made down to a price.

A £200 40" TV may well look as "amazing" out-of-the-box as TVs costing many times more.
However, long term quality and durability is what I would be questioning about such an obviously budget TV.
The Polaroid name is no longer any indication of anything.
Supermarkets are hardly the place anyone "picky" about TVs should purchase, especially the main TV in the house!0
