BUYER BEWARE ,CRITICAL ILLNESS INS
Hi folks ,
in sept 2011, I took out a critical illness insurance with Scottish widows in Edinburgh scotland ,along with my mortgage with Lloyds Tsb, On taking out the critical illness policy I was under severe pressure with a marriage breakdown & losing custody to both my kids . In April this year 2014, I was diagnosed with NUROENDOCRINE CARCINOMA ,a hormonal cancer ,which I had a large operation which most of my liver was removed 70% and a small bowel resection , At the end of may 2014, I was a bit fitter and lodged a critical illness claim with Scottish widows in Edinburgh , on Scottish widows looking over my medical records and the policy which I was answered questions to I answered a couple of question wrongly about my alcohol intake which has nothing to do with my illness as my consultant told me , now they have cancelled my policy , I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT TAKING OUT CRITICAL ILLNESS COVER ITS A TOTAL SHAM , AND DISGUSTING , MANY THANKS FOR READING THIS POST .

Only thing to be "careful" about is honestly answering questions on the application form. Your answers to these questions would have been the basis for the actual cost of the policy.I answered a couple of question wrongly about my alcohol intake
No surprise that your policy is invalid, I'm afraid.0 -
I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT TAKING OUT CRITICAL ILLNESS COVER ITS A TOTAL SHAM , AND DISGUSTING ,
Over 90% of CI claims are paid out. It is not a sham.
Non-disclosure claims should be handled in the way set out by the FOS:
1- unintentional non-disclosure: where you made a mistake but viewed as an accident. The insurer will honour the claim but reduce the payout by any extra premium you should have paid. if the cover would never have been offered by the insurer had they known in advance, they will refund the premiums paid.
2 - intentional non-disclosure: the insurer can void the policy, refuse the claim and even keep the premiums.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Not sure what Scottish Widows have done wrong, they can only go by the information you provide them with !!0
