Unipart car battery

Turns out "Lifetime" is the normal lifetime of the product i.e. until you break it, not the lifetime of the purchaser.

They claimed it was "wear & tear" and couldn't supply spare parts due to its age. I would have expected a discount on a new replacement, but no luck.
This was a few years ago now. IIRR, the pivot hole in the handle was worn.
They used to make good tools though, I've never broken one of their spanners despite massive abuse.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Out of interest, what car OP?
Unipart batteries are rubbish ime. Had one fitted via the AA, lasted 6-12 months and needed replacing (under warranty). That also failed after a year or so.
Ended up getting a Bosch (silver) and it has been perfect since.0 -

Made by Varta, rebranded for Bosch and sold at a much higher price. We're talking around £60 for the Varta online, delivered to your door and £120 for the same Bosch in your local Halfrauds.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Random thumbs up to leatherman, they did offer to replace my multitool as the spares for my old one are no longer available.
I expected better from snap-on, but as AdrianC says, they should replace it!0 -
Good luck claiming now, you need the original receipt and it must not be due to wear & tear or misuse, so basically there is nothing that is covered
Who says the receipt will be a problem? - I keep all of mine! I have receipts going back over a decade and I'm fairily certain i probably have one or two from over 20 years ago
As for wear & tear / misuse my local halfords is run by chavs who basically don't give a damn about looking after their employer - I've had to take back several bits (including a ratchet spanner) and get them swapped and they've never once quibbled.
That reminds me, I've still got to take a defective torque wrench back to them..0 -
You could go to a branded Unipart centre and see if they will exchange without a receipt, their batteries are normally date labelled and you might find a generous centre manager. Otherwise go to your local motor factor and get a better one for a third of the price.
(Incidentally, while the "Man on the Van" always exchanges broken tools with barely a quibble, I did think torque-wrenches and ratchets were specifically excluded from the lifetime warranty. You learn something new every day.)0 -

Depends on the member of staff and how much they really care about their employers rules. Some staff don't give a monkeys and will exchange anything.
The torque wrench was reported to them as being defective years ago. I was supposed to get it tested but never got around to it. I did however fill in a complaint form documenting the issue at the time and still have my copy somewhere. Legally I have upto six years to take this issue up with them and as it knackered a whole bunch of threads in an alloy engine head within a month of purchase (and was reported to them at this moment in time) I am confident they will deal with it.0 -

Who is silly enough to buy a car battery from Halfords?0 -
Well done zooner post #21. I'm sure the forum will be rushing to avail themselves of your fast delivery batteries from India.0
