Any contents insurance include pet damage?

Hi

I have had a quick look online and haven't found any helpful info, so hoping someone here can help :) Does anyone know of any house insurance companies that include (or can include) damage from pets?

We are about to get a puppy and we are due to renew our house insurance (currently with Direct Line, who don't seem to cover pet damage) I know years ago certain companies did cover pet dange, but am nsure if this is still the case?

TIA

I do not know of any that specifically do but my renewal this year has new clauses added excluding "Tearing, scratching, chewing or fouling by any pet or domesticated animal".

    Most don't.

Ask NFU whether they can include.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

If you're aged 50+, Saga Premier will cover pet damage (it also covers matching sets and suites in full) - not a bad policy, although I can't comment on the price.

Thanks for your replies - I was expecting most companies to have stopped this cover. I have checked Saga (as hubby is almost 50) and they seem to be quite cheap! Sadly our remewal is due before hubbies birthday.

Wait for the renewal.. My parents used them for one year then the prices shot up.

And they prevent you doing online quotes if your already a customer. Tells you to check the renewal.

There are older posts about this; possibly a couple of years old. I know back then that Ecclesiastical covered it, and back in the day Guardian Royal Exchange did - taken over by AXA several years ago, so may be worth your while checking on the current policy wording - what a way to pass the dark evenings! :D

Just a word - if pet damage is covered, it has to be one frenzied incident, eg dog demolishes the sofa in a day, rather than general pet wear and tear such as stains on carpet, claw marks on furniture.

Provincial paid out when our dog ate the remote control (this was the 1980's, and £64 was a lot of money!).
