Also look in places like alternative health food shop type places as they sometimes have boards up with rooms/flats advertised.
Yeah I am bidding on property on homechoice but I'm only in band B so I'll be waiting forever to get a place. I guess I could try looking in newspapers and shop windows. What newspapers would advertise flats for rent do you know?0 -
look in your local paper.
how old are you?

My age isn't important. I meant the only newspaper I know that has adverts for things is the loot... so I'm asking what other newspapers generally have properties in them? Are there newspapers like the loot which are dedicated to advertising properties?0 -
but your age IS important.
if you are under 35 you will only be entitled to the shared accomodation rate of hb if privately renting) unles you receive certain disability benefits
i dont know where you live, so dont knmow what your local paper is called. mine is called 'the chad'.
where i used to live it was called 'the gazette'... before that when i was in london it was called the post.

Thanks, my local paper is called the gazette because I live in Colchester. It is if you are single with no dependents or disability and are looking at private rented as, if you are under 35, the housing benefit/LHA will be based on shared accommodation rate.
If you are single and over 35 you would get the one-bedroom rate
I'm always a little bit reluctant to discuss what I'm entitled to because a lot of people get funny about it but I'm 25 and get the single room rate, I also get disability (pip) and esa support group so I can afford a 1 bedroom place.
I also just checked my local paper and there are many flats listed in it even though most of them run indirectly through one of the various estate agents that have already turned me down but I'll keep trying.
Thanks for the help.0 -
if you receive PIP than you would be entitled to the 1 bed rate ( or middle rate vare DLA)
have you explained to the agents that you receive disability benefits rather thaan JSA?
o know some make a distinction between jobless and disability benefit

what I'm entitled to because a lot of people get funny about it
Well as you said it's what you are "entitled" to under the laws of this land.
If some folks want to get funny then that's really their problem.
I hope you find help here.0 -

Yeah whenever I email them I do make it clear that I am on long term disability and not jsa.0 -
i would, and i would suggest that you contact them in person or phone them.Yeah whenever I email them I do make it clear that I am on long term disability and not jsa.
if you arent able to for some reason, maybe you could get someone else to do it on your behalf?
i know when i was looking for a private rental ( about 3 years ago) that even though the agents said no benefit claimants, that when i approached them in person and explained the benefits i was receiving and why ... most were willing to accept me with a guarantor
