smart meters

Hi

My energy company has just advised me that I can have a Smart Meter installed.
I am just wondering: "Are they the best thing since sliced bread" in meter reading products?
Has anyone good/bad experience with them being installed?

Thanks

We've talked about this several times in the past.
Here's just one of the threads but if you look you'll find others.

  • They are just another electric meter. Readings are simplified by being transmitted to the supplier automatically via mobile phone network. Comes with an excellent energy monitor which knows your tariff and can give you and hourly/daily, monthly accurate usage in hard cash. From what I see on my rounds the majority end up unplugging the monitor and sticking it in same drawer as the juicer, breadmaker,/George Foreman grill, however your dedicated moneysaving expert will love it

British Gas have a free electricity on Saturday or a Sunday tariff for Smart meter customers.
You can expect more of this kind of think.
I have Smart Meters, no more estimated bills for me, and if I want to take a reading I just look on the monitor.

What unplug a George Foreman and leave in a drawer. No way. We use ours a lot and is probably more efficient than using the grill.

I have smart meters with british gas and I am getting free electric on a saturday. My Tariff runs out at the end of the year.
But this tariff is available now. And you can choose either sat or sun for the free electric.

I was going to say the same! We use ours about 4-5 times a week!

We haven't had it that long but I think we are wearing it out. I want to get a new one but this time I want detachable plates and a temperature control.
