painting my aquarium.

Hi Guys,

i have an aquarium which is a dark brown color . it seems like a wooden effect as per below but it is not wood rather some type of sticker like laminate as per the pic below.

now I want to paint it and make it white glossy as per the 2nd pic below .

do I just get a glossy paint and brush it over or do i need to do anything else such as applying primier etc ?

I am not sure if the color will stick to the plastic thing looking like a wood and not sure if it will turn out to loo the same as the 2nd ne hence why asking for suggestion .

  • It could be worth looking online to see if you can find the actual stand you want and buying it. Then you can sell yours to recoup the loss.

I'm not sure about the painting side of things, you might struggle to get the kind of finish you want. You will at the minimum probably want to use spray paint though rather than a brush and / or roller if you weren't already planning to do so.
  • the problem is there is a fish in there and need to brush paint as it is in a flat .

re getting white and changing that is not an option as I have to remove 200 liters of water change it and then sell mine which is too much hassle :(

I think my only option is either paiting or sticker

Your best bet would be to see if you can find somewhere local that does vinyl wrapping. I have seen people have this done to kitchen units before and it looks really good (not too expensive either).

Agree with last post you can get a sticky back plastic to recover the stand and its a lot better than the old Blue Peter days
