Hi there,
My 13 year old son is starting to become more aware of looking after his skin and is suffering a bit from spots on his nose. Can anyone please recommend any skin products which are suitable for teenage boys? Specifically a cleanser, toner and moisturiser for him.
Many thanks!

Well it is nice that your son concern about his skin and you also searching for the right product which will suites his skin. The market has huge option for skin care product make sure that you would choose the best product out of them. The skin type is always check before applying any product. You need to visit skin specialist to take the right advice for your son skincare.0

perhaps australian bodycare? i think boots & superdrug do 'copy' versions of the range too, tea tree oil is the ingredient to look for.0

I would firstly say stay away from all "the big names" in teenage/male skin care, a lot are far too harsh in my opinion.
Try having a look at:-
Body Shop (they did a Tea Tree oil range at one time)
Simple Oil Balancing range
Good Things
Lush (you probably will have to go in for him, few young guys would want to be seen in there perhaps)
Avene
Liz Earle
Dr Organics at Holland & Barrett
Neutrogena
Stay away from anything harsh, rinse really really well unless it is specified as a leave on product, and get him to try and train himself to NEVER touch his spots unless he has just washed his hands. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Wash face twice daily with unperfumed bath soap. Then use Tea tree oil or the alcohol based clearasil wipes. Don't put gunk like moisturiser on, it will give him more spots!0

Mr Owl is rather a fan of the body shop tea tree range (he likes the foaming face wash), he says it makes you feel really clean, especially after a day at work! He also likes their shaving range (although not relevant for your son yet!). HTHChildren are born with wings .... I've heard lots of good things about Cetaphil cleanser. I would suggest witch hazel as a toner and something basic like Nivea Soft for a moisturiser. Keep it simple! No more goo hoarding!

Keep it mild- many go full tilt and use really harsh products which then cause problems within themselves and the person ends up with sore, sensitive and often spot ridden skin after their skin reacts to really harsh products. Start off with keeping skin clean and clear, washing with a mild cleanser twice a day. Then add a mild moisturiser and go from there- if there are still problems (eg dry skin, oily skin, combination skin, spots....etc) and treat as you go along.
I would say with spots, don't pick, just use a mild cleanser and then if you really want to treat the spot, something designed for spots of which you can get most places (eg a witch stick or tea tree oil stick) and use sparingly and only once or twice a day. If your finding this isn't working or the spots are spreading, give it a few days for your skin to get used to the products your using, then change one thing at a time- change too much at once and too frequently and your going to end up causing problems for yourself, but if you notice itching, reddening or dry skin, stop using straight away, go back to what you had been using and wait a few days before trying something else.0 -

is that true though? i know if i don't use moisturiser my skin goes into oil overload, trying to make up for the lack of moisture? i definitely wouldn't use a heavy cream on hormonal skin but you can get light or medicated moisturisers too.0
