Malta in October?

Morning folks!
We're lucky enough to be able to afford two holidays a year (went to Lanzarote in May) and we're now looking at our October holiday.
The past three Octobers we've been to Menorca, Ibiza and Majorca - weather was hit and miss and were all very quiet.
Portugal and Malta are both coming up very reasonable. I love Portugal and would gladly go back but OH is looking at his 'trusty' weather apps and insists there would be more rain than sun in October in Portugal (would insert rolling eyes icon here!) so has decided Malta is the best bet.
So just after some tips/resort advice from fellow MSErs please. A few people have mentioned Bugibba and St Julians' Bay. We're going with our 3 year old son so as long as there are shops, restaurants and a beach we'll be fine! Thanks!

I've been to Malta in the first week of October and it was roasting, no rain at all.
As for beaches, Malta doesn't have many. Buggiba has a man made one, I don't recall seeing one at St Julians though I could be wrong.

Lanzarote May
Malta Oct
As you will see from the above two links the weather is fairly similar to each other but a little more rain in Malta and fewer daylight hours. When rain does happen it tends to be heavy and then over quickly rather than a whole day of light rain etc.
You will be off peak season so things will be quieter but then you are seeing that reflected in the prices you have.0 -
There are very few sandy beaches in Malta, the biggest one with hotels etc. nearby is Mellieha Bay.
St Julians is the nightlife capital ( see Paceville, basically the same place )
Buggiba/Qwara/St Pauls Bay ( they all run together ) are a good compromise. If you are close to Buggiba bus station then you can get out and about easily. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0 -
There is a man made beach at St. Julians, right in the curve of the bay. We've been twice & going again in just over 2 weeks time :T
It can be very busy at Paceville & I have no idea about kids stuff to do as we travel as a couple so not sure if St Julians is for you, maybe some more research to be sure.0 -
wow thanks for the replies everyone. We've been looking at a few places, specifically Bugibba. I'll let you know when we've booked. The cheapest we've managed to get it is £621 so far, trying to get it under £600
