Blackhorse :(

Hiya everyone :)

It is probably a question someone has already asked I'm sure but here goes.

I had car finance through a car dealership and the finance was taken through Blackhorse. Not sure if I had PPI sold on it so wanting to find out. I have written to Blackhorse with as much info as I can previous addresses/dob/maiden name etc. They wrote back saying could not find any info for me and I would need a valid agreement number for them to even try and trace anything. It was back in 2000 I had this finance. They aren't saying its to long ago which surprised me but they are saying I need this agreement number.....moved several times since then and couldn't find anything with it on. Spoke to my bank HSBC who I have always banked with to see if they could get ref off direct debit it was set up on and they say the records only go back 6yrs yet when I got them to look at some info I had on a loan from 98-99 they could find it :( weird.....so they are no help. My question is what next. someone said try my credit report but does this only go so far back? any other options anyone can advise?????

Your complaint is against the dealer, not the lender.

As it predates regulation of general insurance, FOS cannot help so your complaint seems to be dead in the water.

Even if you were to find that you paid PPI on this finance, any mis-selling complaint would have to go to the car dealer. Unfortunately for you, the dealer will not have been regulated prior to 2005 and so any complaint would fall on deaf ears. You would have no right of referral to the Ombudsman.

Best to let this one go, I think, particularly because you don't even know if there was PPI at all.

I've got a similar situation with Blackhorse in that they would investigate if I could find the agreement number. I think their older archived transaction histories can only be found with the original account number.

My ppi policy was sold through a dealership which closed down several years ago.

FOPS have got no jurisdiction as it was pre 2005, so maybe its the end of the road for us both in this instance?

As it would be the dealer to whom you must complain rather than Blackhorse, you wouldn't get anywhere even if Blackhorse were able to "investigate".
