When if any is the best time to buy a sofa??

I am looking at buying a new sofa, the one i like is from DFS. Have heard bad and good reports about them, but got another sofa last year from In-Style in glasgow and that was a disaster so couldnt be any worse!! The sofa i like is in the 'SALE', with a whopping £100 off! Is it worth holding out, as i have heard that the only time they dont have a sale is august. Anyone know??

If it's the Sofa you want and there is money off to be had go for it. DFS have a 6/8 Week delivery period and in theory only have 2 Sales a year but do have other offers on between. Plus at the end of the day if the price goes down between purchase and delivery you'll pay the lower price.

I ordered a Hemingway from them yesterday and following read threads on here was very cautious on the PPI on the 0% Finance option and was waiting for the tricks from the Salesman. He never mention it, I checked all the paperwork very closely and he had marked PPI as N/A when I questioned him on it, he said it was no longer available from DFS and was undergoing a review by HQ. I asked if it was because of customer complaints and he replied something like that, but he could no longer sell it.
    Cheers

  • Ragardless of "sales" the best time to buy is usually the last day of the month, preferrably at 4pm if the place closes at 5. Do your research and look at all the ones you like, then when you've decided, go and close the sale. Generally, the salesman's targets end on the last day of the month and if he's desperate to get that last tick on his sheet, he'll bend over backwards for you. Dont go in too close to closing time though as it can backfire if they have had a long day and just want to get home.

I am about to move into my first flat and i picked up 2 x Ikea Klippan sofas for £15 EACH on eBay!! (1 day auction so it went cheap). New covers are £25, so i have an as new sofa for £40.

I would also recommend ebay for new sofas, there are loads on there and even with postage they still come out cheaper. Plus make sure that if you are using ebay to bid on an item (as opposed to "buy it now"), use auctionsniper as you will end up getting the item cheaper in a majority of cases.

But for shops, the rule of thumb tends to be at the end of the month, on a quiet day not a weekend (as they are less interested in doing deals if the shop is busy). Try also to deal with the shop floor manager who has the authorisation to cut a deal (look out for the name badges). :T
I never missed a payment :T , I paid off all my credit cards :T , I paid of all my loans :T , i have a work mobile :T - but am now "medium" credit risk

i would avoid dfs unless they have a stunning deal. we got a sofa from them late last year which arrived torn. (they claimed it was a natural flaw!!) they repaired it badly but really couldnt care less due to us paying in full when it was ordered. we never even got an apology and the staff answering the phone were so rude, hanging up on us several times. a friend also took delivery of a sofa from them and it was they wrong one! dfs then claimed they didnt have pictures for them to compare so they had to keep it!

bank holiday sales and boxing day, if you really must use dfs etc...
very expensive, they have huge overheads to pay for.
    try ebay instead.

(the mark up on furniture is massive)

Have you looked at sofa sofa? ( www.sofasofa.co.uk ). They've got a sale on at the moment. We've bought 3 sofas and a sofabed from them over the past few years and they are excellent. You can order off the internet and if you don't like it they will take it back for free and give you a full refund.

Buying off the internet/ebay seems to be cheap but I would really want to sit in it before I buy it to know if it's comfortable for me. I see sofasofa.co.uk only have a store in Cardiff according to their website - is this it? Personally we've found Furniture Village to have the nicest sofas and best staff, but still looking.
