Personal Finance Software

I am looking for easy, reliable, budgeting and planning software with a good size userbase, good support, initially to track bank accounts, debt, good budgeting, flexible etc. (investments are less of an issue). I am not looking for a 'live interface' just want to b able to import data with minimal fuss, manipulate and forecast.

Looking at AceMoney, Quicken Deluxe, YNAB, Moneydance.

I have seen UK options but have dismissed due to limited userbase, support and oncosts.

Please vote for your planning favourite

I'd suggest taking a look at Microsoft Money too.

I tested most of the above and YNAB seemed the best in terms of usability and interface but it is specifically for day-to-day budgeting, not for managing money and short term forward planning (which makes it no good to me) but worth a look during the 30 day trial though.

I'm still using Microsoft Money v11 (over 10 years old) which is running on a virtual machine on my Apple MBP. This is still by far the best I've used which proves a point there's nothing better out there. Unless you can find this CD (on eBay?) and you're running XP or Vista this might be a difficult option for you. I bought VMWare specifically to run it on my MBP!

I stand to be corrected on the above if anyone can suggest anything better...

I'm still on version 8 (Money 2000), which runs just fine on Windows 7. I've tried the free 2005 version but just prefer the look and feel of the older one.

I've been using YNAB since January and I love it but as the person above stated, it is very much focused on day to day budgeting. Forecasting, short term or long term, doesn't fit in with the 'philosophy' that the makers of YNAB recommend you use their program. Also, some people dislike that you have to enter transactions manually. You can download statements from your providers but I imagine there would still be a lot of tweaking with categories, names and so on. I would recommend try the 30 day trial, as the support you can get on the YNAB website and forums is fantastic, but it doesn't seem like it would be the right option for you.

Another vote for Microsoft Money. Rock solid and comprehensive application.

Thanks to all - I am particularly interested in near to medium term forecasting (up to 12 months) as much of income is lumpy on bonuses.........would like to avoid spending it before it turns up.

    MS Money.
Nothing to touch it, particularly if you need to record investments.
