Bathroom/en-suite/downstairs toilet design - all the same or not?

Hi,

Just hoping for some opinions please.
We're moving home on Friday and the house we have bought needs a lot of work. Our first job is to replace the main bathroom, ensuite and small toilet downstairs.

I have found some nice tiles I like for the main bathroom, my husband is keen to do all three in the same tiles but I'm not sure.
I'm not sure if they will look better all the same or look like I couldn't be bothered to put much thought into it and did it on the quick?
It would be easier to do all 3 the same but I don't want it to look like a house that has been renovated quickly to sell on as this is our family home.

Your thoughts would be appreciated - thanks 😊

I think it would be better to do one and wait, if you have to, until you find something else you like.

Making them all the same does make it look like you describe - done by someone who didn't really care. If you're not happy now, it will grate on you later, whereas if your husband waits, he might be a little put out in the short term, but he won't be sitting on a new loo in a year's time cursing you because they're all different.

Have you had a look at pinterest? Just type in bathrooms and see what comes up!

I wouldn't do all three the same but I think the en suite and the downstairs loo would be fine in the same with the main bathroom different. Depending on how small the rooms are, it might save a little money if you can reduce wasted half-used boxes of tiles. I don't imagine anybody would go from one to the other than regularly either so it's not like your guests will be thinking about your tiles matching and as long as you really like them there's no problem.

When we had to choose which tiles we wanted in our new build we chose different tiles for each of the three shower/bathrooms. Our builders thought we were weird as everyone else had the same design in them all. It's whatever you please. Only people staying over will ever see inside more than one of our bathrooms to check which tiles there are. It also made buying matching towels more interesting.
  • We used the same tiles in the bathroom & ensuite & different ones in the downstairs loo :)

That's what we did because we loved the tiles and couldn't find anything else we liked as much for the bathrooms.

I think it depends what you like. If there is significant difference in the size of the rooms then something which looks good in a large bathroom with lots of natural light may not work so well in a much smaller room with no/limited natural light, for instance.

That said, if you like the tiles and feel they will work in all for the rooms, there is no reason not to use the same ones.

If you don't like them, or don't think that they will look good in the smaller rooms then don;t use them. You are, after all, the ones who will be living with them. Do what you think looks nice, not what you think someone else might like.

We've used the same type of tile but in different colours.
