    ISA's - primarily cash

    Surely not, at current rates?

Cars are also difficult for me. I refuse to use finance (never have, never will) so either need to cash to be piling up somewhere (not at these interest rates!) or to sell down some other assets.

I've always got lucky in the past and have had one tech share or another that's gone mad, so I can sell a couple of CGT allowances giving me £20k+ in my sky rocket to spend on something shiny. We blew £30k on "his and hers" last time, and neither brand new as I don't do that either.

The next renew should be when our 25% PCLS comes along. Must not go mad. Must not go mad.

Thanks for the responses. Kind of confirmed my thoughts but nice to hear the varying angles. I think I am going to put my passive portfolio into practice within the ISA, although a bit wary of the markets at the moment but I guess the whole point of passive is to pretty much ignore these given it's over a 5+ (prob minimum of 10) year time frame.

Would you care to suggest a date in the last (say) 20 years when people weren't a bit worries about the market?

If you read messages from people back in the post dotcom or credit crunch depths, which were (in retrospect!) great times to invest, everyone and his dog and his gold bullion dealer would assure you that markets were really really bad.

    Hi gadgetmind

Yes, you're right. I'm a novice investor and only recently started reading the various sites. I'm just going off the comments that US looks expensive etc. So it does make one jittery about buying into certain markets.

As you say, I'd imagine there are always doom-mongers stating markets are bad. And there will be happy-clappers saying everything's rosy!

At the end of the day I guess passive investment encourages longer term, cheap investment with a minimum 10 year timeline. Whether markets are over-valued or not in theory will not matter too much over that timescale.
