Tap diameter
Hi All,
Not much of a gardener, but I have been tasked with sorting a hose so my partner can more easily water her tomatoes. However, I can't seem to get the right tap fitting. The tip of my tap, just barely fits into a 1/2 inch connector, but refuses to screw on. I can kind of get it to screw on a little bit, but the slightest tug and the connector comes off. The 3/4 inch connector is clearly too large (and doesn't work either. Any thoughts? Do I just have an awkward sized tap? I'm guessing the tap was put in when the house was extended back in the 80 if that helps. Anyway, pictures!

You say the smaller one fits a little, but pulls off - try cleaning the screw bit of tap with a wire brush to clean off the oxidate. If the threds are cleaner it may screw on. My OH fitted a new tap last year at a better height when we had water meter put in. Was a bit of a faff as he's not a plumber - but it looks good & does not drip/ run now.0

Just buy a new bib tap from screwfix. Maybe this one is not a standard size ?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

The tap might have an Imperial thread by the look of it.
Modern connectors will be Metric thread.
New tap job really.......

Outside taps are normally 3/4" BSP, ocassionally 1/2" BSP. You may have an odd size there, so if either adapter doesn't fit after a clean-up you might have to replace the tap. Easy job - don't forget the ptfe tape round the tap thread when you screw it in.0
