Hello everyone,
I am buying a house that doesnt have gas central heating so i need to add a new connection to the house. Does any one of you have similar experience, i am mostly interested on the price and time scale.
Thank you

I can't remember the figure but it's costly, and they don't exactly rush around to do it either.0

You'll get an indicative costing here:
http://www2.nationalgrid.com/uk/services/gas-distribution-connections/indicative-charges/
We've waited two months now to have a meter moved. More the local authority's fault than national grid for the last week, but still...Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

If there is gas already laid in the road outside and within 23m of the property, then it can be fairly simple. Latest quote we had a couple of weeks ago was for £270.33, as long as you provided the trench for the gas main within the site boundary. Additional cost then for running the gas pipe from the new meter inside the property, which you can get from your plumber.
Timescales are a bit more fluid - typically 8-12 weeks after paying for the works upfront.0 -
What area do you live in? this will indicate who operates the local distribution network..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Cost approx £370 including the ground dug for you, up to the 24m distance.
Having ours done 7 days after they received our acceptance form.
cost £650 ish for next tier of distance frm house.0 -
Thanks for your replies, national grid has the pipe lines in the area. I have used the tool for an indicative price and the nearest pipe is 2m from the propertys boundary. The indicative price is £565 with national grid digging the trench in my property. If i provide the trench then its £2000

the nearest pipe is behind the property under a footpath and it may be less than 2 meters from the boundary. However i am concerned about the brick wall at the back of the property. How is the pipe supposed to go under the wall and then into the property?0

Worth checking energy saving trust website as there are sometimes grants available towards gas installation - sometimes not within 1 year of buying the house though.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

We had gas connected recently it cost us about £250. We dug the trench ourselves (1 1/2 foot deep 1 foot across). The house is about 7 metres back from the pavement. We also have a low wall bordering our property but this was no problem as the gas company burrow under it.
If the gas people had dug the trench it would have cost about £695, so quite a saving if you are able to do it yourself. We only had to dig through lawn so not too difficult.
I think it took about 6-8 weeks from phoning them to them doing the work.
This cost was for the National grid in the west Midlands.0 -
I suggest you get a quote direct from your local Gas Transporter for a connection to their gas network. Who you should go to in the first instance depends on your area;
National Grid 0870 903 9999: East of England, North West England, West Midlands, London.
Northern Gas Networks 0191 525 2600: North of England including Cumbria, Northumberland, County Durham, most of Yorkshire (except Barnsley / Sheffield / Doncaster).
Scotia Gas Networks: Scotland 0845 070 1432, South England 0845 070 1431
Wales and West Utilities 0800 912 29 99: Wales, South West England.
Do websearch for 'new connection' and the company names above to see maps of their areas and much more details on new connections, including how to apply online.
They may offer help with cost if in a 'Fuel Poor' area or household.
Also if quote is high, you may be able to get cheaper via another company called a Utility Infrastructure Provider especially if you band together with neighbours.
Do a web search for 'Utility Infrastructure Provider' or come back here.0
