Skipton Underwriting Process

Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if anybody has dealt with Skipton recently? Or know how strict or lenient their underwriters are?
Me and my partner are currently at the underwriter stage now. We had our decision in principle accepted around 4 weeks ago, and we went to pay for the deposit on the house (it is a new build). We had a 3 week waiting time before we was able to speak to their Mortgage adviser on Saturday. We received the documents in email and we sent them today and they will arrive at their office tomorrow, she said on the phone they are about 5 day's behind so we should find out next week.
The only query I have really is that are the underwriters likely to reject the application after you have manage to get to that stage? So far we have not encountered any problems and we have worked out our budget and can easily afford the monthly payments, which a nice amount of our wages left over.
I am just a bit nervous at the minute until we get the approval, whilst I don't see how they can say no due to us never having a missed payment and can afford etc, you can never be too sure.

I quite like Skipton.
Once the DIP has passed, assuming you can supply what they ask for and are not too reliant on tax credits they are usually quite straight forward.... pretty much what you would expect from those yorkshire folk :-)
Straight forward and common sense approach in my opinion.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Am at an early stage with them too. I note they perform a 'hard' credit search prior to AIP which I got today. So they can see everything.
This should help lessen any issues when the case reaches the underwriting stage at least from a credit file point of view, if there were any credit issues they would have been picked up and made 'referral' at the AIP stage.
We have a two week wait for their broker expert to contact us.
What documents did you have to send them?...3 months of bank statements/pay slips?
Let us know how you get on and good luck!...everyone gets nervous at underwriting stage!0 -
Last case I submitted they wanted:
Personal Identification (passport/driving license)
Address Verification (this could be bank statements)
Latest months bank statement
Signed Emortgage Customer Declaration (https://www.skipton-intermediaries.co.uk/~/media/Intermediaries/PDFs/ApplicationForms/edec_form.ashx)
Source of deposit?
Insurance contingency fee to be added? Thank you ACG
, we have supplied what we was asked for, although that was limited in what they wanted. Us Yorkshire folk are normally very stingy with our money haha.
wrkactjob, I think this has to be the worst stage of it all, as it's the final stage where it is either a yes or a no. I noticed that too re the credit search prior to the AIP.
Surprisingly we wasn't actually asked to send much in, all we was asked to send in was the latest bank statement showing money going in and out etc, and then a statement showing that we have enough money in the bank to pay the fees. We asked if we was able to print the statements from the internet and they said that it wasn't a problem. Hopefully the mortgage adviser hasn't given us the wrong information and we end up having to submit more information.0 -
We had our mortgage with Skipton last year, they were really good.
All we needed to send was bank statement, proof of identity/address and proof of deposit funds I think. From what I recall I ended up sending them screenshots of my online banking!0 -
Can you go it alone with Skipton if you have bad credit?
I would appear to meet their criteria for bad credit but not sure if these mortgages are broker only?Save 12k in 2014 member 056

Hi Jason,
My credit history is not the best due to a partial settlement 3 years following an arrangement. I have now used a broker and my application is at underwriting stage with Skipton. I had to pay the broker £495 but they have said that because they are a member of a mortgage group he can get us a better rate with Skipton. The broker will make sure that all the documents Skipton want are in order so it may be worthwhile contacting a broker.0
