Again a lot of opinion in this thread and little facts. A BB issue cycle of 36 months means by definition 2/3'ds of those opinions will not yet have been subject to the new assessment regime which only began in Jan this year. Those posting here that getting the badge for fibro only was easy I can only assume are referring to the old pre Jan 2014 assessment criteria, there is no guarantee whatsoever that those who have had a badge previously will get a badge in this round.
If you strip out the 'without further assessment ' entitlement of :
- those who are more than two years old and fall within one or more of the following descriptions
- receives the HRM DLA ; or
- earns 8 points or more under the “moving around” activity of the mobility component of PIP, or ;
- is registered blind [severely sight impaired]; or
- receives a War Pensioner’s Mobility Supplement [WPMS]; or
- has an award tariff of 1-8 of the AFCS plus is certified as having a permanent and substantial walking disability
You are left with the tough 'with further assessment ' rules applied locally to a national standard by O/T's etc appointed by your local authority. So regardless of those reassuringly well intended legacy issue[e] posts here you either get the 8 points on the desk based pre-assessment filter or you go to the very considerably more thorough face to face O/T assessment. Its 8 points - 8 points - 8 points, fibro or whichever per se is not of itself a reason for the 8 points.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Rant warning! I have been refused a Blue Badge despite being in a wheelchair after surgery on my foot and leg.I also use a zimmer frame because I am able to hop a short distance but my balance is poor as my other foot requires surgery. When I come out of plaster I will have to have months of physio to walk properly again, then I will need to have the same operation on my other foot and further physio. The letter said it was because it was not a permanent disability. I can understand that but surely there should be leeway for a temporary badge to be issued. We bought my wheelchair second hand from a charity shop to make life easier! Rant over.Sorry, nothing useful but I feel better. Not dim

There is - but only if the disability causes 'considerable difficulty walking' for 12 months.
(in Scotland 'virtually unable to walk')0 -
RogerBlack -Thank you so much. Just been on the phone to a lady at the town hall and she said because I had ticked the box saying no it wasn't permanent, it was an automatic no.
When I explained that I was trying to be honest, that the treatment and recovery would be protracted even though the conditon was not permanent, she explained I should have ticked yes and took all my details over the phone again so that I can have a temporary badge. Result! Hope everyone else in need is helped appropriately. Not dim.....just living in soft focus

My daughter has severe fibro and other conditions. She has a blue badge which is very useful. She recently bought a small mobility scooter from Ebay and it has proved to be the most useful purchase ever. It comes apart very easily and so fits in the boot of her car. It cost £140 and there were plenty of them for sale on Ebay when she bought hers. Probably worth a look anyway.0

My daughter has fibro and other conditions and has a blue badge. She is in her early 30's and also gets strange looks when parking in a disabled spot. People do seem a little less surprised when we start to get the wheelchair or mobility scooter out of the car!0

my partner has fibro and has good days and bad days. She can walk unaided so does not have mobility problems in the literal sense. i don't think she would qualify for PIP having read the descriptors.
the problem is that walking to places completely wears her out. so she will be exhausted if we have to walk to get somewhere, so we drive everywhere and park as close as possible. she can walk around a supermarket for example but doing that might mean she spends the whole of the next day totally wiped out.
if we drive anywhere more than an hour she has to lie down in the back so we have to share the driving if we go anywhere out of town.
i was wondering whether having a blue badge might help her get out and about more as she would not have to worry so much about how far she will need to walk and what the consequences will be. i don't know if this situation would meet the blue badge criteria so i would like to know if other ME/CFS/fibro people have a similar experience or issue.
thanks
