partner moving in, how do they work out ctc now?

Hi all.
My partner has moved in. He was made redundant and.finished work last week. I'm a carer for my disabled son.
I'm trying to get through to tax credits and whilst I'm waiting I would like to know how they work it all out.

I get the highest rate of ctc as it includes the disability element. I've been claiming this since last July.
Will they take my partners earnings from last year into consideration, even though he wasn't part of the household?
My worry is that we will end up with a massive overpayment and no tax credits.

They will base your new joint claim initially on your Joint income for last tax year.

Then you can ring them and ask them to recalculate based on an estimate for this year's income.

So yes, his earnings when you weren't together will be relevant.

If you claim a means-tested benefit like income support, income based JSA or income related ESA then you will continue to get maximum child tax credit.
