Remember that the person at the other end of the phone is only doing their job. Speak to them in a pleasant manner and they'll respond likewise.

Yes you are so right i wasn't going to get mad with them cause they are only doing their job its not their fault its my fault for getting in that situation in the first place

So, is this an actual court backed fine, or simply an unenforceable pseudo demand from a limited company (Capita)?

If the former, you obviously have no choice but to pay it, but if the latter, you can go license free by ditching any subscription based TV service and simply using catchup instead. The TV license is not a legal requirement for anyone who does not watch live TV despite what they would have you believe. Likewise, their 'inspectors' have less rights on your property than the paper boy and can safely be told where to stick their 'request' for payment. FYI, you cannot be 'in debt' to a TV license since there is no credit extended. All licenses are paid in advance.

  • I agree.

Whether you or not you have actually been convicted and fined in a court of law, there's nothing stopping you from going LLF (Legally Licence Free) from now on.
  • Well done on making that first call. You should be feeling proud!
  • I was tempted to go Licence-free myself, as generally I watch catch-up telly on NOWtv and think we could survive happily without freeview that we have since jettisoning SKY several months back. I could live without live TV I think.

And if they happen to ever call again, don't let them in, a TV inspector has no right of entry to your home, if they cant physically see your TV connected to the Ariel they cant issue a fine or summons to court.
