If it's a communal aerial and your neighbours are fine then that suggests the problem lies with your aerial socket in the flat. Usual cause is the wires becoming dislodged from the back, we had the same issue when we moved into our new house recently. Simply unscrew the faceplate and have a look. If the wire looks to have become detached then you can try and fix it yourself (very simple job) or failing that just ask the LL and I'm sure he'd rather get it fixed than have a tenant do a bodge job.

Thanks EmmyLou30, that's kind of what I'm worried about. Doing more damage! :D

It does seem like it is the actual socket in our flat so I will try that tonight.

Not much damage you can do. You might fail to fix, but do further damage to a tv socket..?? No.

(I take no responsibility for the advice given!)

An aerial is generally needed for freeview to work if you haven't got Sky or cable.

    Exactly! Thank you Mylo. :D

You won't do any damage by gently taking off the faceplate to have a look and an aerial wire doesn't carry the dangers that messing with an electrical socket does. At least you'll know what to go back to the LL with when he asks exactly what's wrong. We had one in our new house in the smallest bedroom that had an aerial socket but when we removed it it had no aerial lead going to it so that quickly explained why it didn't work! It was purely for decoration :-)
