grass seed

Sorry - I know this must seem a sad thing to be asking advice about......however...I wondered whether there was any gardeners out there who might find themselves reading this....

I am growing grass where i have had bushes dug out - quite a big area. I used a good quality premium grass seed and it grew through very quickly but was patchy where the areas hadnt been sown properly. I recently went over the bare areas thinking that I had bought the same grass seed......qualcast premium coated grass seed but as i finished sowing my seeds I realised that I had picked up qualcast shady grass seeds (exactly the same box!!)......I am now worried they arent going to grow as i didnt seed in a shady area.......I only sowed the grass seed about 6 days ago but no sign of life yet.......

Basically, will this shady grass seed grow in a non shaded area....

I know that i should wait and see but i am an impatient soul and also i couldnt stand the thought of doing it all again....

Many thanks

You'll be fine. Shady grass tolerates shade not requires it.

It will still grow, but will be a different colour to the rest of the lawn, as its a different mix of seed

I am growing Johnsons shady grass seed on my lawn near some bushes and in patches on lawn and whilst it has taken longer than value grass seed to germinate it is coming through, ironically not at all in shady areas yet
  • Thank you everyone - put my mind at rest as i would hate to do it all over again - will have to be patient.....Save money, I hope your grass comes through in the shady areas soon...

6 days ago, come on give it a chance:D:D.

It may take 3 weeks, but you have planted at the best time of year seeing as the summer appears to be done.

It will germinate in shady areas, the issue is that if shade is too heavy it won't thrive but will likely grow well for 1 year. I've done the same area under trees over the last 17 years, always as above.

Wilko's seed from the barrel without Ryegrass works in most conditions and is very cheap.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
