photo booths

am thinking of paying for my daughter to have a photo booth at her wedding but its getting near and I think maybe I am beginning to 'throw money at things'. Are they really, really worthwhile and lots of fun?
Thank you

I will be interested in replies to this also, as we are considering a photo booth to entertain our guests at our NYE 2015 reception :)

Depends on how many guests and the personalities of the people you get.

Also it depends on the sort of 'photobooth' you hire. Some are a guy with a camera, backdrop and some cheap props. Others you get a proper partysize booth with instant double prints.

We hired the latter for our wedding last year and it was a great hit. One of the funniest photos we got was my 85yr old granny wearing a wig and sunglasses. Amazing fun!

We have an album full of these fun pics and it was great entertainment for our guests.

At the time we paid £495 for ours but prices do seem to be falling a bit now as more & more people are jumping on the bandwagon.

I went to a wedding last week, and they'd got a big photo frame, hollow, on a tripod, then had a table full of props.

These days, loads of people take their own cameras to weddings, so people were dressing up and snapping away

My DD's photographer offers it for £200 as part of a bigger package, as she and her fianc! are not too bothered they have deducted it from the package. We had one at the company Xmas do last year it was OK but a proper photographer the year before got better shots in my opinion.

i went to a wedding last year and the booth was a blast! it was being used virtually all night. There was a big box inside full of dressing up gear, you had 4 photos taken with 15 seconds in between to "get dressed" - it was like the Generation Game!
Once they were taken you got a copy and so did the bride and groom, and you wrote in a "visitors book". The bride got them all in an album a week or so later. she said it was one of the best things she forked out for.

edited to add - its not instead of a photographer. Its to create merriment on the night and for extra special memories of the occaision. a year later we still have our photos on our desks in work and it still prompts conversation.

  • Going against the grain here but I don't think they're worth shelling out on. They're so commonplace at weddings and parties now the novelty has worn off and at the ones I've been to this year they were barely in use.
I like the above idea of providing a frame and props instead, much cheaper.
  • We were on the fence about one until I went to a wedding about a month back. It started a bit slow but eventually everyone got involved and there are some great pics. We have one of my OH's 92 year old grandad wearing a pink cowboy hat and looking like he's having the time of his life!
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?

Our guests loved ours and it was sooo popular. We just made our own though, we sectioned an area off with a kite (done ask......) and hooked up the camera to the laptop with a count down on the screen.

We put aside £30 for the items and got loads of chalk boards, big frames, hats, glassess, wigs, blow up rubber ring etc

The photos are amazing and I love looking at them. We then used our guests individual photos as their thank you cards which we printed.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
  • I like the idea of people going to have there photo taken to remember the day x
