Raised vegetable beds

Hello
Have seen a few threads about raised vegetable beds but just wanted to ask a couple of Qs of my own.
I was going to put some in my garden and grow some veg , as I am fed up of the state of the grass.
Would anyone know the best depth for them, and maybe size too.
Some veg have deep roots, so was going to make mine about a foot deep.
Also what would be the best way to prepare underneath. Should I dig out the turf a bit , or is it OK to put straight on grass?

Do you mean how tall are the sides??
Mine are made of a single decking board, but the ground underneath was well dug over first and it was in very good condition.
size?
Do you mean the width of the bed, length is immaterial, but its generally accepted that you don't want to be standing in/on the bed, so its as far as you can reach from both sides ....... about 4 foot.
I would certainly remove the grass and dig over, but I would refer you to my first answer.Should I dig out the turf a bit , or is it OK to put straight on grass?0 -
The beds on my allotment are made with single decking boards. They have been very slightly dug in so they sit properly.
The decking boards are 2.4m long. Another board cut in half to make the beds 1.2m wideI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards.
