When can I plaster new mortar?

Hey everyone,
After the render had blown on my internal kitchen wall, I decided to repair a few patches. I suppose my question is relatively straightforward, how long does it take before I am able to apply a coat of plaster. Is a little moisture in the render ok or should I wait until everything is absolutely bone dry?
I think that I repaired the patch about 36 hours or so (give or take) ago. Anyone have any good suggestions? I would like to move it along as quickly as I could and maybe get some new equipment to do so from OxTools or somewhere comparable.
