Closing Santander bank account - how long should it take?

How long should it take after telling my branch that I want to close my Santander account? And do they send confirmation that it has been closed?

Thanks in advance :T can't wait to get rid of the blasted thing!

If you use a switching service, it will take 7 working days. If you just want to close it, it can apparently take 14 days. Google "santander close account" and the first link gets you to a FAQ answering your Q.

I've closed Santander accounts in minutes before. As long as there is a zero balance (withdraw funds at closure to make zero) and no direct debits it only takes minutes to close.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Think there's about £5 in there at the moment (rich! :rotfl:), will transfer it via online banking before asking to close. Thanks for that :)

Have you thought about using it for a switching bonus?
