PPI worth pursuing after 10 years?

Hi all,

I recently decided to try and reclaim PPI i have definitely paid on consolidation loan/s i took out with Beneficial Bank/HFC maybe 10 years ago. I didn't have any account details but submitted a letter giving details of my address at the time and branch I took the loan out with (High Street, Belfast). I have since received a letter saying that because its over 6 years they no longer have any details. I would like to know if it is worth pursuing this any further and if so what my next steps are?

Thanks,

David

  • You could spend £10 on a SAR and see if they really have nothing left.
If they have no details, and you haven't, it's game over.

I'd certainly pursue it. I recently received over £3000 back from Lloyds for loans I had in the late 80s/early 90s, for which I could recall very little.

Certainly is worth it! Maybe try and track down old bank statements or request them from your bank at the time as your monthly direct debit might have a loan account number shown as a reference?
  • I'll think I'll risk £10 on a SAR and see if they really have nothing on file. I'll let you all know the outcome.
  • Hi after reading the MSE website I blindly tracked back thru old bank accounts and found a solitary piece of paper from the Halifax from 2002 that confirmed I had taken PPI. I follows Martins guidelines and submitted a claim and got £600. So do follow up. Have to say the Halifax team were very efficient.

This is key, you had documentary evidence that you had PPI. The OP has no such evidence and the Bank have already informed him that they no longer have records.

The SAR letter "follow-up" is very likely to confirm only what the Bank have already said and it will cost "Dee_H" £10 into the bargain.
