Hole in Brick Wall

Hi

Today I noticed a hole on my exterior brick wall - as per here:

https://twitter.com/payrollexcel/status/503631050296545280/photo/1

It is right at the bottom of the wall. I think this part of the wall is lined up to a part of the path that has slightly uphill and water and rain does not move and creates a pool. So I think this may have caused it.

I do not think there is any water getting through (I have not seen any in the house) but want to seal it quick - any tips on how I can sort this?

I am assuming I will have to keep on repairing it due to the stagnant water !!

Do you think that hole has suddenly appeared?
Looks to me that its a deliberate drainage hole for the wall, is the ground level higher on the other side.
I would NOT be in a rush to block it up

Get a piece of tissue and fold it up to fill half of the hole. After some rain check to see if its been washed out or still in place.

I would not block it up. Does appear to be deliberate.

That type of void is produced where scaffolding has been tied to the brickwork and not been made good when the scaffold has been taken down.
Certainly that bed joint has housed something and water has not caused it to end up like that.
In my opinion it is not a drainage or ventilation point.
    I would fill it with 4 : 1 sand / cement.
    Forgotten but not gone.

I can tell you exactly what it is. Its called a 'weep hole'. If you look along the rest of your property you will see others. They are there to allow any moisture that gathers in the cavity to find its way out, otherwise it will cause a damp issue on the inside of the property. ON NO ACCOUNT BLOCK IT UP.

Sorry, Tony, but you are incorrect. If it was further up the house, you may be right. However, at low level, they are weep holes for drainage. Please don't fill it up with mortar.

I have to go along with the weep hole, it just looks too deliberate to be anything else. OP needs to poke around in there and find out if it is intact/clear.

The 1 thing I don't understand is why the OP hasn't seen it before???
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

But scaffolding is not tied at ground level
