Monarch concerns for long haul.....

Hi all, we have booked to go to Florida next August and have paid in full. This week I have read that Monarch are stopping their long haul flights from April next year!
Where do we stand on this if they do?
The tour operator (Thomas Cook) don't seem to know anything about this revelation and Monarch said we wouldn't have any problem but I'm not convinced. The holiday is with Cosmos who,it appears, use BA and Virgin flights out of season (we're going in August)
Can anyone here shed any light on this news?

I have posted this in consumer rights to see where we stand legally but just posted on here to see if anyone else has heard this news and has concerns.

  • Where are you due to fly from as it looks like it is only flights from East Midlands that are affected.

It's still possible to make booking for LGW to Sanford for summer next year so I would assume that some long haul routes will still be operated.
Your best bet would be to give Monarch a call on Tuesday.

Monarch have not ruled out using scheduled flights to serve this route and indeed their larger Airbus would suit. Likewise TC (like Thomson/Cosmos etc) may well 'buy in' flights for this route. I would expect you will be totally ok however your flight time may change.
  • Thanks for finding that. Do you think I should send an email to the askandrew address on there?
Really concerned as we have paid over 6k in advance! Not concerned we'd lose the money as they are ABTA and Atol bonded but concerned we won't be going on holiday!

That email address, I understand is for staff questions only, - I will send you a PM.

  • Interestingly, my OH, who is in the industry, has told me i am not to book anything with Monarch as they are going through a very rocky time at the moment, financially. Rumours have been circulating for some time, as to how long they will stay around. Shame really as i thought they offered a quality service.

Did you pay by credit card? You may be able to claim, if anything happens??

If Monarch cancel your flight, you have an absolute right to re-routing with EU Reg 261/2004, so yes you will be going on holiday.

Your contract is with your tour operator, at one point you say it is Thomas Cooks at another Cosmos but either way their will be plenty of charter seats going to Orlando, just not on Monarch Airlines

Have to say their long-haul wouldn't be sadly missed by any passengers I know.

I've paid in full for my Monarch flights directly booked with Monarch themselves on their website. I paid with a debit card so does that mean I've go not protection as it wasn't a credit card?
