Garden fence problem

Hi, Wondering if anyone can advice me please. My grandads neighbour asked him 18 months ago who the right hand fence belonged to, my grandad said I'm not sure which one belongs to me as since I have been here 15 years I have never had a problem with the fences and the best bet is cheak the deeds to see who it belongs to. Few weeks later my grandad noticed the fence had been removed and a new one been put up instead which was not really a problem. The problem started 4 weeks ago when my neighbour spoke to my grandad and demanded 1700 because he said the fence belongs to my grandad and that he was lying that he knew who the fence belong to. And if he don't pay him the sum he will take him to the courts.
My grandad lives alone and is really stressed out about going court he has tried to explain to him that he tould him that I don't know who it belongs to and please cheak the property deeds to see who owns this. And that he was not tould the fence was going to be replaced or if replaced that he will invoice my grandad Incase it belonged to him. Also the fence was fine not broken at all in the first place.
Please please any advice would be great

neighbour has no rights, even if it is gradads fence, more fool the neighbour for spending dough on it
infact, if your grandad wanted a fight, he could sue the neighbour for damage/ destruction to the old fence....
tell the filthy dodgy, oap bullying scum neighbour to jog on0 -
Thanks jc808, I will tell my grandad from many people I have asked they have also said he has no right and he is just trying to scam you. And if he threatens to take you to court to tell him he is more then welcome0

as far as I know when it's your boundary there is no law saying you have to have a fence or anything on it so if he doesn't want a fence he can't be forced to payHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

You are correct, a boundary is just that, no need for a fence/hedge or wall etc, unless there are retaining issues then you do have a duty.
As said above, tell him to but out or face harassment charges, if he replaced it it's his fault.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Thanks a million everyone who has commented. I will tell my grandad when I visit next to read these comments so he can see himself that he is in the right and stand his ground : )0

If he gets any further trouble, try Age Concern (for somebody to go bang on the neighbour's door for him), or his MP (to do the same job).0
