Soundproofing a stud wall

Hi

Our bedroom is next to a bathroom, with only a stud wall in between. There is no insulation in the stud wall at all. My wife is a very light sleeper and is woken even when someone goes for a pee in the night!

So we're going to put some insulation in the stud wall. As standard people use Rockwool and plasterboard, though I've found sites such as soundstop.co.uk which for a 3x2m wall is £300 for the materials. They quote that it will reduce noise levels by approx 16db.

Only problem is, I don't know how loud that is - would that stop the sound of someone peeing coming through the wall?

£ for £ would it be much difference between standard rockwool and plasterboard?

Cheers
Mark

I would go for rockwool and a few sheets of Gyproc Soundboard on top of that.

We have just done an extension and have an ensuite - 4" thick stud with 140mm Earthwool as insulation, double boarded with soundbloc on one side in the bedroom and moisture resistant board in the loo - can barely hear the loo being flushed let alone someone having a wee.
