the other half and I are looking at ibiza for our holiday next year, santa eulalia to be exact.
we usualy go HB so any recommendations would be nice, but we may consider SC or RO depending on what the food and choice is like in the resort.
any advice or comments would be nice.

The Tropic Garden is a decent hotel, lots of facilities, good location and does cater well for Brits if that's what you want but it is very popular with families so depends on whether you want to avoid children.

The Sol Ibiza is adults only and again a decent hotel. Right by the sea (but not by the beach) some of the rooms have really good views.

For something a bit more luxurious try the Fiesta Hotel Don Carlos, again adults only and really really nice. Again in a fantastic location, and the pool area and terrace have fab views too. The new ME Ibiza is also super swish and looks lovely but I've not seen it in the flesh yet.

The Invisa hotels are ok too and would be a good option, I think there are two or three in the resort.

What is the resort like at night? Are there many bars and do any of them have music or entertainment?
We looked at san antonio bay and playa den bossa but both seemed to lively for us.

I suppose it depends what time of year you go really, and just how lively you want it.
There's a good choice of restaurants, and has all types of food available from tapas to indian, british fayre, chinese and lots of more upmarket restaurants too. In the marina there are one or two 'ibiza bars' that have live dj's some nights and a bit of a beach bar clubbing feel to them without being in your face. There's also quite a few bars that do live entertainment, the Mariners usually has decent tribute acts.

Most of the hotels have entertainment at night like bingo, quizzes etc but not much of that in the bars really. Es Cana is only a short taxi ride away for a change some evenings, and Ibiza Town is only a bus ride away. There's also water taxis to both resorts too.

Playa d'en bossa has undergone a big change in the last couple of years with some really upmarket hotels, in a sense it's a grown up San Antonio now and attracts some big name dj's and a lively crowd but it's a biggish resort and still caters well for families too so not too OTT if you want to escape the clubbing side of things.

    thankyou for the replies.
playa d'en bossa was one of our other options, but as there are a couple of big clubs there that put us off as we thought it may me a bit OTT a night. but if you say it has changed over the last few years we may have another look.
what is playa d'en bossa like for eating out of we were to do SC or RO?

Sorry I should have made myself a bit clearer, PD.Bossa has changed in recent years in that it has become a little more upmarket but in my opinion it has become more clubby too. The opening of Ushuaia Beach Club a few years ago brought a lot more dj's to the area, and now there is the newer ushaia tower too, along with the Hard Rock hotel and the Jet Complex which has been there for years but is very much party central. All these are located towards Space nightclub and this side of the resort is very much geared to late nights, but in a more trendy upmarket way now.
It's fast becoming the San Antonio for the wiser crowd who want good music, decent hotels and lively nightlife without the tackiness that San Antonio perhaps has.

It isn't OTT, but out of the two resorts Santa Eulalia is definitely the more laid back one. Food wise Santa Eulalia is a better choice I think. The marina area has some lovely bars and restaurants and there's a nicer choice than in PDB where I found it was more brit bars and fast food type places. Again the change has led to a better choice of places to eat but I would still personally go for Santa Eulalia. All though the two resorts are only a twenty min drive away from each other so you could still sample both.

I have been going to Ibiza since 2000 and have clocked up 18 visits. In my opinion, Santa Eulalia is by far the best place to stay unless you are between the age of 18 and 30. I would look at Trip Advisor for hotel and apartment reviews and see which would suit you. Bear in mind that there is no perfect hotel. The two best located are the Riomar Hotel and the Orquidea Aparthotel, but these aren't necessarily the best. The Don Carlos hotel is in a great location, and I have stayed there 6 times, but since it's refurbishment it has gone up a lot in price. The Tres Torres hotel is near the marina and worth considering. We stayed there last October and really liked it. Santa Eulalia is full of nice bars and restaurants and has the best promenade on the island. There are several bars with live music, and good transport links to other parts of the island. Also check out Ibiza Spotlight website for information on the island. There's something about Ibiza that gets under your skin, and it's my favourite place in the world!

after a lot of looking at accommodation in santa eulalia, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of self catering accommodation in the resort.
is this because the choice and quality of food when eating out is poor or is it just how the resort is mor all inclusive and half board accommodation?
we really like the look and sound of santa eulalia but it looks like we will have to go half board or if the price is right all inclusive.
    my search continues

Have you considered the Casa Luis, Can Sanso, Tropic Gardens, Orquidea, or Ros Apartments? All available through the big tour operators, and all SC. If you look at Ibiza Spotlight under apartments in Santa Eulalia, they also have a good selection. My favourite is the Atlas Apartments, which have a great rating on Trip Advisor. There are also private apartments through places like Holiday Lettings. Absolutely loads to choose from!
