If you're using a laptop on a desk then a normal mouse would be easier than the touchpad (not so much if it's on your lap though!) - I would choose a wired mouse over a wireless though, but maybe that's just me. I had one years ago and it drove me crazy, the batteries never lasted long enough!0

You might get a better response in the Techie Stuff section.0

I use a wireless muse with my laptop. If I am sat on the sofa, I have it on the arm. This works fine for me.0

I'm using a 'Microsoft Wireless Mobile 3500 mouse' - very good
Also I use a 'Logitech EX 100' cordless keyboard (which also came with a cordless mouse) - very good
(Prefer the '3500' as compact)0 -
Thank you I do tend to sit on the couch with my feet up this is probably why my wrist is hurting as my hands seem to high up (if that makes sense ) so think a mouse on a pad might be better

I have a 'rollerball' mouse I can hold it in any position I feel comfortable and operate the cursor with the rollerball. It has two small thingies which are the right and left hand clicks.
Thanks to all OP's your efforts are much appreciated :A0 -

using a laptop for any length of time is not recommended as it stresses your wrist. I would sit at a table & see if you can attach a keyboard & mouse so you can follow DSE guidelines, I realise these are for work but I have mine all set up at homeproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0
