What's the best electric heating for my house?

Hi everyone, I've been lurking on here for most of this year reading and taking lots of advise in and thought I'd ask for some help heating my house, we have a new baby girl and trying to keep the house warm was quite expensive last winter, we had a open fire which I'm in the process of putting in a 6-7kw multi fuel burner and 5 old style storage heaters in the rest of the house, (two large and three small and only one small upstairs) which we didn't like because we have to guess what temperature the next day was going to be so I would like some advice on what we can swap the SH for, we have no mains gas so will need to stick with electric, is there any better type of electric heater that would be more user friendly? We have cavity and loft insulation and are on E7

Thank you for reading and for any information :)

Although storage heating does have limitations - as you describe - their running costs are less than a half of 'normal' electrical heaters - fan heaters, panel heaters etc.

Also on Economy 7 you get most(all?) of your hot water at off-peak rates; and you can run appliances like washing machine, dryer, dishwasher overnight in the off-peak time.

Exchanging storage heaters for normal heaters might make things more convenient, but will undoubtedly cost more.
  • Thank you for getting back to me, so probably best to learn how to use the SH better instead of upgrading them or swapping them for newer models, we were looking at oil CH but not going to happen anytime soon, just wanted to heat the house more efficiently for this winter coming,

Switch to non storage heaters and you'll need to come off E7, which will triple your heating and hot water bills and may also require a meter change. Very bad idea.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
