PCWorld giving out Credit Card details?

In December 2005 I bought Spyware Doctor from PCWorld and paid with my Credit Card. A few days ago noticed an entry on my Credit Card statement for £18.31 from the supplier PCTools. I asked my Credit Card Supplier to investigate and they transferred my call to PCTools in America. They told me that I had signed-up for an annual subscription but, since I am no longer using Spyware Doctor they would refund me and cancel the subscription.
I have been using the free Spyware Terminator for quite a while now.
It was only after the call that I remembered that I bought Spyware Doctor from PCWorld. I’ve been through my Credit Card statements and confirmed this. My Credit Card statements also confirm that I haven’t renewed the Spyware Doctor license.
Does anyone have any explanation as to how PCTools could have got hold of my Credit Card number, other than from PCWorld?

I did Register the product (so that I could get the free updates), but that didn't require me to enter my Credit Card details. The first year was free. I never renewed my License after the first year because by that time I'd found a better product. I've checked all my Credit Card statements since December 2005 (yes, I keep them all) and there are no payments to PCTools. There's no way that I have given PCTools my Credit Card number.0
