  • Hi Goldie, your right to keep it to yourself.. We can't always be on the same wave length on all counts...and personal accounts are so individual, we may never meet eye to eye even if this that we think we will!

Ha ha Hannah. Sticks like !!!!!
  • Hi again Hannah! I've now found your thread!
I must say, at 28 years old, with 3 children, to have paid of your debts and to be now concentrating on your mortgage with a 10 year pay off plan... I applaud you immensely!

We (oh&I) spent our early years together really strapped for cash. I learnt the hard way how to stretch a pound of mince (as I've said on here before!)..

Hey Bo. We had a rough couple of years, but I know I am fortunate enough to say that rough in today's world isnt half as bad as it could be! I think our lowest point was admitting we had an issue (a lot more money outgoing than incoming!!) but without being there and struggling I wouldn't be managing as well now. I was raised by my grandparents, so I think i have an old head on young shoulders! Our biggest financial worry is loosing our house, my husband always hated debt, I am really lucky we are both always on the same page financially.

I don't think there is a right or wrong way... Folks just have to do what feels right for them..and for us, striving towards mf spells freedom!
We do continue to live though, and don't deprive ourselves of family time or or spends with them.

To all our money saving peers on here... Good luck on our endeavours, whichever form it takes for us to achieve our goals.

    Bo xx

    Thank you :)
I think for us being mortgage free means we can spend more time with the kids, and give them more when they really need it, rather than now. A few of my friends have told me they spent thousands taking little ones to disneyland, and there children were so young they dont remember now :(

I want to give my children a helping hand when they enter their teens and early adulthood, but equally I want them to be hardworking and understand the value of money and quality of time too. They never told me motherhood would be so hard to balance!

I know!! I had to google to "sticks like" to believe him, and that could have been dangerous!!:rotfl:

Hi Goldie  I must be old before my time too then! Thou i dont think i will regret it one bit when i am MF! Ive mentioned it to my SIL, and mentioned I overpay to a few friends but I always feel a bit wierd telling people, so I dont think i will be sharing much more tbh. I am going to head over and read your diary when i get chance :)

Ive been so busy Ive not had time to post!

On Sunday I did a carboot sale. I made a whooping £128 minus the shocking cost to hold my small stall £13, I still walked away with £115 :j. I had a huge amount of help from my SIL who is amazing! I would of sold everything for 50p when some things actually sold for £4+) After a few minuites I was asking her for prices and everyone thought it was her stall :rotfl:.

I also manage to sell my pushchair for £40, the rest of the carboot stuff as a bundle on fb for £10 and a motorcycle helmet for £5!

    Total Profit :170:j:j:j

I still have that freezer to sell and we asked James if he wanted to sell or keep his toy garage (as he hasn't played with it). He said sell, so we will give him what ever it gets for his money box. He is saving for a projection lamp from Ikea that costs £25!!

James room is nearly finished, his skirting board attached with my budget glue :money:, his bed down from the loft and built and bedtime with all the children in their own rooms was pure bliss!! They had been keeping each other away 2-3 hours past bedtime. It is his first day in reception tomorrow, and he will be 5 in 2 weeks, where does the time go!

We have decided to redecorate our bedroom with the money from our sales. We moved in over 6 years ago and its the only room we have never touched. The carpet was apparently cream at some point, there is wallpaper missing from the walls in some places and its had mould on the walls too, which keeps coming back . We have budgeted £350 for re-plastering, skirting, and coving (thats £150 materials, £200 for plasterer's time(a relative)). We still need a new carpet and it will cost £50 for underlay +£100-200 depending on how much it costs for an matching coloured offcut) We have a £50 per month household budget, which covers the allotment / chickens (eventually) / anything DIY / garden ect, so it would take a while to save enough do decorate our bedroom otherwise!

And I have STILL not meal-planned, which means i havent been shopping, so my fridge is completely bare, and thats what I am doing next instead of catching up with diarys :(

Great car-boot sales! Glad your SIL was on hand to maximise earnings. Fab news about DH back pain easing with injection. Hope your DS has a great first day in reception, my dd started year 1 yesterday and loved it.

I know what you mean about overpaying now and being around more later on, we both work full time but would hope to cut back as my children (nearly 6 and 3) get bigger. We just struggle at the moment with sports activities if one of us is working as the youngest needs lots of entertaining and poolside is not the best place for him!

Thank you :) Glad all your granddaughters were okay too, hope they had a good first week. He was in agony at points, I felt so useless!

I have nothing really much to update, apart from. Ive spent almost all our shopping budget already at Ald* using the £5 off vouchers in the mirror. (used 3, got £122 worth of shopping for £107, including a Spiderman duvet cover for DS's birthday - reduced to £5.09)

We have decided against re-plastering our bedroom and are just going to take the old wallpaper off, filler the gaps and paint, then we have enough money for new carpet :) My SIL has said we can have her old wardrobes when she moves house too :T (I offered to buy as she mentioned she planned to leave them)

We have spent the weekend down at the allotment, its almost fully strimmed down now. and I managed to do some rotovating myself (in an attempt to save DH's back while he is recovering) It literally took my full body weight to control it, and I am feeling rather sore today(shoulders and arms) today with open blisters on my hands!

We have a glut of cooking apples at the allotment, and they need freezing down for cooking later in the year and Ive put a little box together for DD to take into nursery to show all her class what shes been growing.

My plan is to get the frame for the chicken coop built this year, and then chickens next year.

Sending love and luck to all :)
