Creating a Driveway...

I have gone through the council and I have received planning permission to drop the kerb outside my house and create a drive. This is greatly needed as a neighbour across the road is being quite nasty about me taking up two spaces (despite him taking up three).

Anyways... it involves about 5 kerbs blocks being removed, a small cement border thing being removed and the pavement being retarred. Two companies that we have spoken to are offering to do this for £2000!!!!
I have spoken to a builder friend down in England (I live in Scotland) and he has said this is extortionate and has priced it at about £1300 max.

Am I getting a fair deal??
I can't really afford to pay £2000 but would attempt to do so if it is a decent price.
I would be really grateful for any advice given. Thanks for your time.

  • £2000 seems expensive, I think it does depend on how wide the pavement is.

Here is an approx price from Tameside Council, may assist with a ballpark.

thank you very much for your reply.

we have now managed to get hold of a list of accredited people who are able to do the job so we will get in touch with each of them.

my dad thinks that the companies will have all agreed a price together for a driveway so chances of getting anyone to charge less than £1800 will be slim... but we will try just in case.

    thanks again for your reply.
