Post Office credit card minumim payment issue

Ok, so I have had a Post Office CC for 8 years.
Only this year setup a DD for minimum payment. Prior to that I always paid off the balance every month. The DD was to protect me, if I failed to make a payment and avoid any late fee charge.
I have not used this card recently until last month.
The balance was £645 odd. The paper statement clearly says
"Minimum Payment Due
Your bank account will be Debited by the Minimum Payment Due on or after 11 August 2014. Direct Debit will normally reflect other payments received.
If you make the minimum payment as shown above of £17.00 and it reaches us on the due date of 11 August 2014, your estimated interest payment next month is £ 13.55"
So I made a payment on 4th August of amount due less £17 known that £17 would be taken by DD on 11th August.
This is what I do with my other CCs.
11th August came and went and no DD taken (Yes there is one setup on my bank account).
today - statement in the post.
Interest added of £9.81 and no DD of £17 taken.
I check my bank account - no DD taken.
I call the PO.
They claim that the reason the DD was NOT taken was that fact that I made a payment that covered the minimum amount.
This is not like any other CC I have where the minimum amount is always taken regardless that I make a payment.
Fortunately they were happy to refund the interest and log a complaint on my behalf. The real issue being that their statement does not say if I make a payment they will not take the DD. He did say it is in their T&Cs when I signed up 8 years ago - oh and he was unable to send me a copy of the T&Cs there, but was sure that this would be done with my complaint.
Now I have never known a credit card to work like this. Can anybody confirm this is the case for other cards or even that this is true of the Post Office ? - I cant find their T&Cs on line either.
many thanks

Yes, it's true of a number of cards.0 -
Yes - as you say, it was to protect you if you forgot. But you didn't forget, you just assumed the amount would be taken regardless. They're system was Smart enough to know you made a payment, so didn't call on the back up.0

It is stated very clearly on your statement: "reflect other payments received" means the DD will be adjusted in accordance with additional payment(s) received. Some cards operate that way, others take the DD regardless of additional payments. Whichever way they operate, some people will be caught out.marsbar989 wrote: »Your bank account will be Debited by the Minimum Payment Due on or after 11 August 2014.
